What Is a Lo Shu Grid?

A Lo Shu grid is a 3x3 square grid used in Chinese numerology in which each diagonal or straight line of three numbers adds up to 15. The Lo Shu grid can be used to create a personal Lo Shu chart that suggests your strengths and weaknesses.

What Is the Lo Shu Grid Calculator?

The calculator generates a personal Lo Shu grid (or Luoshu square) from your birthdate and gives commentary on the strengths and weaker areas you may carry with you through life.

The tool is free and easy to use: no login or download required.

How to Use the Lo Shu Grid Calculator

  1. Type your birthdate or choose it from the calendar, then click Calculate.

  2. The tool shows your personal grid, the numbers that are present and missing, and a commentary on what the numbers may mean.

  3. To start over, just scroll back up and enter a new date.

How to Generate a Lo Shu Grid or Chart

Your personal Lo Shu grid is based on your birthdate and the numbers in the 3x3 Lo Shu number grid or magic square used in traditional Chinese numerology:

492
357
816

The Lo Shu calculator associates these numbers with different themes:

  • 1 represents career and job success.
  • 2 represents marriage, relationships, and happiness.
  • 3 represents health, wisdom, and education.
  • 4 represents luck, money, wealth, and overall prosperity.
  • 5 represents stability, communication, and balance.
  • 6 represents friends, helping others, and new opportunities.
  • 7 represents mental creativity.
  • 8 represents knowledge, motivation, and memory.
  • 9 represents fame, social life, recognition, and reputation.

To calculate your personal Lo Shu chart:

  1. Place the numbers in your birthdate in their respective spots on the grid.
  2. Calculate your personality number by reducing your day of birth to a single digit (e.g. the 25th = 2+5 = 7) and add it to the chart.
  3. Calculate your destiny number by adding up all numbers in your birthdate repeatedly until you get a single digit, then add it to the chart.

For example, if you were born on July 6, 1982, you add 7, 6, 1, 9, 8, 2 to the chart. You also add 6 as your personality number (born on the 6th = 6) and another 6 as your destiny number (7+6+1+9+8+2=33, 3+3=6).

If you have more than one of the same number, add them all to the correct space in the chart.

In the example above, the personal Lo Shu grid would look like this:

92
7
81666

If certain numbers are missing from your grid (such as 3, 4, and 5 in the example), this may indicate qualities you lack and need to work on to achieve a more balanced life.
